Hello, Seattle!
MBSmithFeldMy name is MaryBeth Smith, and I’m the director of the Feldenkrais Center of Houston.

While visiting your lovely city for the Feldenkrais Guild of North America 2017 Conference at Seattle University, Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas Coast. Surely you have seen the astonishing images from the effects of the massive storm that hovered over my wonderful city and dumped 50 INCHES of rain, with 24 of those inches falling within 24 hours. Somehow, the word “disaster” seems inadequate. And one never thinks of the far-ranging ripple effects of one event.

As the city shut down, so did the airport. My original flight home was canceled, and so I have been stranded here for an extra week. It has been an emotional and financial strain, but thank goodness for friends and community!

You are invited to come to an introductory Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement class TOMORROW NIGHT, August 31. Your attendance will help me more than I can express: of course it helps to make up for lost income while away so that I have a bit of breathing room. It’s always good to have work! You will also make it possible for me to re-ground myself in “what I do.” A fish swims, I teach Feldenkrais! I never expected to find myself as a refugee, and it has been a humbling experience.

Please do join us, and thanks for helping a friend you haven’t met yet! Here are the details:

You can browse around this site if you’d like to learn more about the Feldenkrais Method. I am a nationally-recognized teacher, having presented multiple times at the FGNA Conference. I have a practice in Houston which serves the general public, helping folks to improve their self-image, function, and enjoyment in movement and in life. Whether you are a first-timer to experience this work, or a long-time fan, this class will give you a new way to move, think, sense, and feel about your SELF. Best of all, it will be FUN. Not your normal movement class. We GUARANTEE a “no-sweat,” and “no pain, ALL GAIN” experience. If you sweat, that’s on you. <grin>

Thank you, thank you. I look forward to seeing you on the floor!
